With rECOBIOpack, ILSA is helping to enhance the value of by-products from the coffee industry
09/06/2025
ILSA is contributing to an important scientific study highlighting the potential of coffee silverskin — a by-product of the coffee roasting process — as a valuable resource for high-end applications in the cosmetics, pharmaceutical, and packaging sectors. Thanks to our supercritical COβ extraction technology, first optimized in the lab and then successfully scaled up to industrial level, we obtained a lipid fraction rich in bioactive compounds. The results confirm the effectiveness of this sustainable process for reusing biomass within a circular economy model.

This research is part of the rECOBIOpack initiative funded by the European Union and aligns with ILSA’s broader strategy to develop cutting-edge biotechnological solutions across various industrial sectors — driving forward a regenerative and responsible production model. Innovation, sustainability, and scientific know-how: ILSA continues to lead the way toward an advanced bioeconomy.
